The I-295 bypass around Providence is safe and useful, but overall it is nothing special. However, it does its job of avoiding the I-95 congestion very well.

I-295 provides a congestion-free (if slightly less direct) alternative to the I-95 mess through the Warwick-Providence-Pawtucket corridor. Look for some interesting rock cuts (dating back to the highway's construction in the late 1960's and early 1970's) and original-issue dual "MILE xx / EXIT xx" exit tabs.
