If you are seeking a leisurely drive along Manhattan's FDR Drive, you can forget about it. First the negatives: it is a relatively unsafe road with inadequate shoulders, nonexistent acceleration / deceleration lanes, left-hand exits and sharp curves. It also is incredibly congested, prone to flooding, and always seems to be under construction. Sometimes it is better to take one of the north-south avenues as an alternate route.

But where else are you going to go to get up close and personal with the Manhattan skyline, drive over Wall Street or cruise under the United Nations? The views of Manhattan, the East River and its bridges are nothing short of spectacular.
